At MaRe I’m cleaning up. Many things need laundry at home because for the last about 6-8 month the washing machine could not be used. Need to replace the PCB.

Hulls are pressure cleaned and look very good for the time she was on the water and especially for the longer periods in bays just south and north of the equator which is a good climate for faouling. The STB outer side still needs to cleaned. On this side there is always another boat that closer by that I can’t work with the high pressure cleaner.

The Volvo service staff came and checked the engines and saildrives. They did a thorough inspection, showed me their findings and I agreed to their opinion. An offer was sent and I accepted it. Had not much of a choice.

They also made an offer for repairing my trouble maker Onan genset.

Decision was a no-brainer. I’ll get a new one, but no Onan anymore. I decided for a Fischer-Panda 5000i Neo, 5 kW power output, and a power factor of 0.8. A PF of 0.8 is typical for many generators, indicating that 80% of the supplied power is used for actual work, while 20% is reactive power (e.g., for magnetic fields in motors). Very compact design with direct coupling of the generator to the diesel engine, and full, thus also at the bottom, enclosed with noise reduction materials. So it should be quieter than my old Onan was. To open housing for an oil and filter change takes 10 s where add it took 30 min at my Onan.

Just right at our arrival a very friendly person, very much interested in our sail came to welcome us even with flowers. Nakamura-san, editor in chief of the Japanese sailing magazine “Kazi”. How to put 5 years and 30 000 NM into 2 A4 pages including pictures??? The fun starts when the headaches disappear.
