  • A second day at the marina

After an additional day in Marina San Miguel, Tenerife, because I told have have arrived at the SSW corner of Gran Canaria only in the darkness of the night, I stayed 1 d more in the marina to do urgently needed homework among pretenders, to secure internet connection via mobile phone.

I sailed single-handed to Gran Canaria. Nice sailing wind of 4 – 5 Bft. Sail 50 – 55 deg AWA and hope the wind turns more N in the afternoon. MaRe sails between 6 and 9+ kn, which gives me currently and ETA of 1619.

However the wind died with just 20 NM to sail….

  • Started the way back

After a day of seeing La Gomera’s fascinating landscapes and rain forest, especially the laurel forest, we are heading back to Tenerife. In Marina San Miguel, I could, despite of the ARC epidemic, get a berth for 1 night. Tomorrow I will sail single-handed back to Las Palmas. Poseidon and All the other gods of wind and sea, please a nice sailing wind tomorrow.

  • On the way to La Gomera

After a day at anchor at Los Cristianos, with site seeing for the friends joining this sail (Mount Teide) and for me looking at the city, it’s life, and some things I needed, I had “office hours” on board, we are now on our way to La Gomera. No wind at all. The sea area here is in the slipstream (lee) of Tenerife that much wind cannot be expected as long as the wind blows with a northerly component.

I am calling Marina La Gomera since hours but get always the automated reply to call later again. Maybe “later” means next year I can expect someone answering the phone – manana-land. We most likely will continue to Playa de Santiago and hope we get a buoy in the harbor. Does calling makes sense?

  • Easy sailing

Again a different sailing. From Tenerife’s NE corner to it’s SE corner. Wind of 4 – 5 Bft between 120 deg STB and P. Only the genoa up and we made mostly 5 – 7kn. Gybing a few times were the main actions of the day. Comfortable sailing with the Atlantic swell rolling into the waters between GC and TF..

Marinas along the route are occupied with the ARC epidemic. Thus, we will (have to) go into a bay at the S coast of Tenerife.

Also a sunny day, temperature goes hardly to 24 deg and drops in the afternoon pretty fast. I’m wearing my oil skin and a sweater beneath.

  • ARC is crossing or plans again, bit beside this, it’s great sailing squadron

Again on the way to Tenerife with friends. After 2 upwind tacks we are now sailing with the wind abeam. During the 2nd tack we were lucky, wind turned east and saved us 2 additional tacks.

We wanted to go into a marina in Santa Cruz but….
One marina did not even answer to our call – called about 10 times since 0900 -, and the other has one only after 21. Nov., which is the last departure day for the ARC boats, directly heading to St. Lucia.

The sea is really completely different from the Mediterranean Sea. While crossing from GC to TF, the long Atlantic swell rolls South with a height of 1 – 2 m but still a bit short.

Every reads on board or sleeps; I’m writing these lines to update all of you again.

My SuperWind wind generator produces currently 5 – 6 A solar cells deliver in peaks 10 A and a bit. If this continues, we have at arrival more power in the batteries then we had in the morning. I’m satisfied!

  • What a different passage today

Last time we crossed over from Fuerte Ventura SW corner to Las Palmas we sailed mostly between 8 – 11 kn. Today the fastest are the propellers.

Forecast was in 6 weather models around 15 kn winds from NE. Reality 5 – 7 kn wind; not enough even the gennaker considering the waves we have.

    Good (motor) vibrations!

  • Relaxed time at the SW corner of Fuerte Ventura

Had a relaxed day board yesterday. Baked first whole grain wheat baqutte. Couldn’t go ashore due to to high surf.
Might do a day cruise today. Starting with some up wind sailing to return with a comfortable downwind run.

  • Arrived at anchorage

Currently circling in safe distance to the show until we have a bit of daylight.

  • Sailing through the night

Clear sky, nice wind for most of the time.

At sunset a group of dolphins followed MaRe for a short time.

Night time is cold outside. Inside using radar is more comfortable..

  • Slow-sailing turned to no-sailing

Wind turned to much. 45 deg of course and felt asleep….

Using the engines, no fun but we move forward.

In such a situation but mid Atlantic ocean, what will we do? Use engines or just drift in the last movements of air molecules?
