I bought a pair of Gill sailing gloves in Gibraltar as spares.
When we left St Thomas on 23-Mar-2022, I started using them. Upon arrival in the Marina Hemingway, Havana, Cuba on 11-Apr-2022 (20 days later) they became unusable. Holes all over and all the very special enforcement material (stated on the package when I bought them) was in pieces. I even burned a finger due to that because a line slipped through my hand.
I will never buy Gill sailing gloves again. All statements about the quality and endurance are just a layed out, are made by my sailing friend Sh, and my OBM. Both have the same gloves.
I’m now using simple Japanese working gloves with dots of a rubber like material to prevent slipping of lines etc. Cost – I don’t remember but estimate it to 1/2 – 1 Euro. Even they cost 2 Euro for a pair, they are about 10 times cheaper. BTW, the ones I’m using now, I’m using for several years already for all kinds of work on the boat, where I need to protect my hands. For working with lines they feel very wel and never a line slipped through my hands, not even a millimeter.
I’m going to send an email to Gill and wonder what the reaction will be.
