It is a light wind sail, which I can use for AWA from 70 &#8211; 180 deg. (For sailors: I can even fly it to 150 deg on the other side with a tack height of 2 &#8211; 2.5 m; at 70 deg the tack height is only about 0.5 m). It is flown in the very front of the boat but can be pulled to the side as well; this depends on the AWA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MaRe got in 2024 a new gennaker. It&#8217;s colors are only dark blue and light blue. The dark blue color is at the edges of the sail, to get a good contrast against the sky. Reef 0 is the unreefed sail. When the reef number increases, the sail is getting smaller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the genoa there are bar marks at the foot (lower edge) of the sail. The more number of bars are to be visible, the bigger the sail is. 3.5 bars means the full sized genoa. 0.5 bars means the genoa is reduced to the size of a \u201chandkerchief\u201d. The finally stage is furling (rolling up) the genoa fully. The number of bars is also in the reefing table of the boat designer.<br><br>Now, you might read \u201cwe furled the genoa\u201d &#8211; furling a genoa is a work done very often on a boat and has not necessarily something to do with strong winds. Most often it just means getting the genoa out of the way because we need to work at mast on the main sail or we arrived at destination and don&#8217;t need it anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The gennaker can not be reefed. For that reason I call it a \u201cbinary\u201d sail; it\u2019s up or down.
