..wind down, sail down, wind up,…

It’s always the same old story and it happened today as well.

However, now we are comfortably sailing with a STW of around 5 KN. The only thing we have to do is to reset frequently the wind vane angle of the autopilot because we often get wind shifts.

After quiet some tacking before lunch time, we had to get all sails down as there was no wind at all. But not long after we had the sails down, I saw the wind was suddenly back to 4 KN. We looked at each other and decided to get the sails up again. This was a good decision!

As the ECMWF forecast model looks like, we can keep the sails for quite a while as they are because in the next 48 h, the wind turns on steps around to to E and as we sail in the wind vane mode, MaRe will turn around the same way.

Boh fixed today another lunch with boiled eggs. This because we still have plenty of them and Bio-security of NZ will confiscate them. So we’ll have another few meals with eggs and I’m curious what other recipes Boh had in her huge collection.

Temperatures are really low. Last night I recorded 19 degC. A NZ friend wrote me today that “NZ summers are cooler then the tropics”. I fully agree! I’m, being used to temperatures around the equator and wear now a fleece jacket and a wind breaker, and Boh runs around on a T-shirt.

Currently I’m trying again to catch a fish, which doesn’t disappear with the lure. As a lure I’m using today a diver, which goes a bit deeper into the water. From now (1630) on until it’s getting dark it’s a good time for successful trolling. Fishes will be looking for their dinner and if we are lucky we finally can haul one into Boh’s frying pan.
